GSK Award for MSc. Computational Biology Student

An MSc. in Computational Biology student has won the GlaxoSmithKline R&D Recognition award (Silver Level) as part of his thesis project, entitled "The Identification and Reduction of Energy Streams within the pharmaceutical sector using software algorithms".


Ray Corbett, supervised by Dr. Roy Sleator, was granted the award for his work in baselining the GSK Pilot Plant's energy and utility usage, development of the plant's carbon footprint, and identification and implementation of a number of energy and utility saving opportunities.

According to the Company "This work will greatly contribute to reducing plant overheads and make production activities more sustainable and cost effective"
